Yo! Yes, I’m still alive. =)  Been working on a lot of games and taking care of my little one. I’ll be putting all of my energy into the next game and Evie for a while, but after that, I plan to focus more on some comics.  As I’ve been saying, I have a lot of comics done, and they need lettering. I may turn this story into a much larger project with a full team, since the studio I produce all my comics and games under has become much bigger. At any rate, if you want to see more of your favorite Paradox Lost characters, you’ll find them in our latest game: Crisis Heart Brawlers: Clash at Otakon (the official Otakon video game!)

Here’s a peek:

Hope you like! I’m excited to cast voices for the PL characters appearing in the game. So far we’ve got Johnny Yong Bosch, Cristina Vee, Kyle Hebert, Todd Haberkorn, and many more lined up (and that’s just the tip of the iceberg!) So check out what we’re doing over at Studio Nasu. And don’t worry, one day there will be lots more PL. My art’s gotten much better and much faster. Thanks for hanging in there! See you in videogame land soon!

Wondering about this DS game we’ve been working on? Ask about it at the new facebook spot, www.facebook.com/StarBusterGame and win some rad Starbuster art, free!  We’ll be answering questions, posting news and updates, and doing more cool contests like this often, so go “like” it now!

Want to play Starbuster? Come to VA Comicon this weekend in Richmond, VA, and bring your DS. I’ll have it at my table at the entrance to the AMA 1/2 artist/dealer’s area. See you soon!

New Server! New comics! New Video Game!

We’ve moved! Things may get a little flaky around here, and with email as well, but the new server in general should be WAY more reliable, and faster to boot.  I’ll be testing and working out the bugs as often as I can, but there’s a lot to do!

Cons: I’ll be at Nekocon, Anime USA and VA Comicon over the next few weeks.  We’ll have art, some of the Studio Nasu team, and a new game demo we’re designing with Dragon’s Den Unlimited!  Speaking of which…

I’m teaming up with Dragon’s Den Unlimited to help develop a rad new space shooter called Starbuster! We’ll have a DS demo version available to download to your own DS at cons, so come try it out! Hooray, big news!

I have so many comics drawn!  A lot of technical work must be done before I can get this page back up and running, but the wait is almost over, finally!  Believe me, it’s been killing me as much as anyone else waiting for new stuff.  it will pay off!

I have a lot to talk about, including our studio’s new home in Richmond VA, but right now, I’m going to get back to work on making the site run right.  Follow updates on twitter if you want faster news, just find davemon. =)  See you all very soon!

So, yeah, a lots been going on here in my absence. =)   Meet Evelyn Isabel Lister. Thanks to TrueStar for the awesome hat! So, of course, I haven’t been doing Nothing all this time. Aside from being a daddy (which is AWESOME!) I’ve been working on a lot of art and design work to support the new family. Now that things are finally becoming more stable, I’m starting to work on more of my own projects. You may have noticed that some of the comics in the archives that were just line art are now toned. I’ll be finishing that up and then pulling art out of the archives and posting it in the gallery. A LOT of art has already been added to the gallery. If you’ve been keeping an eye, you may have noticed that too. I’m steadily trying to add art and descriptions there so I can get the archive organized. Then I have a LOT of new comics that are drawn and need to be toned. Once that’s done, I’ll add items to the store that I’ve been selling at cons for about a year (like prints and new shirts). Also, if anyone still hasn’t received an order, (there are about 16   left) those are going out as soon as I’m home from this con run.

Thanks everyone for being patient (or impatient but supportive!) Just wanted you all to know I’m still here and there will be more comics soon. Just a bit of a shift in priority now that we have a cute little new organism to feed. ^_^

This piece will be a new print, I’ll have it at cons from now on, or if you’d rather order it, just shoot an email until I get it up in the store.

A bit of a rush to get to Anime Next this weekend.   Looking forward to seeing everyone and hanging out with these fine gentlemen as well.

Comics are drawn, and need some photoshop love.   I didn’t want to leave you with a comic right before a stretch of cons and make you wait, so this update is art.   If you’re waiting on a commission, thank you so much for being so patient!   I’m still grinding through them.   See you at ANext!

Whew!   Ok, a couple quick things, since I haven’t got a lot of time:

New vote art: here’s an example of one of the commissions I’ve done recently

I’ll post another one after this one. Vote a lot! That’s how I know when to put another up.

Kitten: Is doing WAY better! Thanks to everyone for all the emails and commissions. We’re moving the furballs in today. Oh, and we moved! We finally have our own place. Due to the move and vet bills and other craziness, I’m ridiculously broke right now, but I’m going to try to keep things from being dead here any longer. To that end, I’m still taking commissions. I don’t normally, but right now I need them so don’t miss out. I’ll stop as soon as I can afford to so I can focus on comics.

Comics: The next one is drawn, and I’m going to work hard to come out with more as fast as I can. Bear with me, I’ll do my best.

Art: New wallpaper is in the works, and I have a plan that might help things pick up around here. Here’s the idea: After I get enough money to cover the monthly bills, I’ll post a new wallpaper. That includes donations, online purchases, all that. So, every time you donate, make sure to tell me what you’d like to see in the next wallpaper. IE: Cute picture, funny picture, sexy picture, or whatever. As soon as I can, I’ll set up a voting system for donations and online transactions. For now, if you donate or shop from the store, make sure to add you vote in the comments. I’ll get on the wallpaper that has the most votes. Obviously, vote as often as you like. =) This is just an experiment, but if it works, it would solve the problem of not having time to update because I’m too busy working on freelance to pay rent. ^^; Let’s see how it goes. Right now I can cover all my expenses with about $1000, and that’s not that bad. Let’s do this by four categories: sexy, funny, action, and cute. Feel free to give me suggestions for the next categories too.

Commissions: Working hardest on those. Check out the post below for pricing, I definitely need more! This all will work out to me getting my rent paid and posting more comics.

Website: finally getting the website re-designed the way I want it. Keep an eye out for changes, it’ll be a major overhaul.

Thanks for sticking around!!! Sorry this is such a disorganized post! ^^; *runs away*

Ok, something new just came up.   Christine and I have been needing to move for a while now, so I’ve been working hard to pull in paid illustration and even coding work.   Comics have had to sit on the back burner.   Well now we have a problem.   Kitten, one of our awesome cats has developed some kind of infection.   Not sure what, but the first vet appointment alone cost over $500.   ^^;;   Now Christine is a full time student, so I’m the only one with an income.   Of course, we’re going to spend whatever it takes to make Kitten better; that cat’s been with Christine from one side of the US and back, twice!   The trouble is, I’m not sure how much more this might cost, and we were already in a big financial crisis.   So, I’m officially announcing an open door to commissions.   I’m putting all other projects on temporary hold and I’m going to focus on getting art for you done ASAP, and I’ll even squeeze as much comicing into this time as possible to show my appreciation.   I’m hoping this will be a win for everyone.

Please note, this is NOT a call for donations!   I haven’t been updating for a while, and it would be unfair to ask that.   I’m offering commissions, and I’m willing to negotiate on the pricing, so if you ever wanted some cheap Dave-arts, this is totally the time!

Here’s the normal price breakdown:

  • 8.5 x 11 pencils one character:         $10.00 (click for example)
  • 11 x 17 pencils one character:             $20.00
  • Add extra character:                                     +$5.00 (3 max on 8.5 x 11)
  • Lightly colored:                                                       +$10.00 (click for example)
  • Inked                                                                                         +$10.00 (click for example)
  • Inked and shaded                                               +$15.00       (click for example)
  • Colored pencils AND inks:                   +$25.00 (click for example)
  • CG cell shading:                                                   +$20.00 (click for example)
  • Inked and cell shaded:                           +$30.00 (click for example)
  • CG painting:                                                               +$50.00-$100.00 (Varies on subject, style and detail)
  • Background:                                                             +$10.00-$20.00 (Varies on size and detail)
  • Digital file:                                                                   Free! (just give me an e-mail addy)
  • Shipping for original:                               +$5.00
  • Extra prints:                                                         +$5.00
  • Desktop wallpaper (any size):     +$5.00 (Free if no editing is needed)
  • EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS:                       Negotiable (Only for commercial and resale use of work provided.)
  • Fine art drawing:                                             Negotiable (Completely depends on work involved.   Reference needed for portraits. Click for examples.)
  • Murals:                                                                             (Depends on size and subject matter.   Local to Richmond, VA, but willing to travel if costs are covered. $200 is a typical baseline)
  • Logos:                                                                                   Negotiable (depends on use and company)
  • Website code, images or designs are available upon request.
  • Original music composition available upon request.
  • Ninjas sent to harass another webcomic or Bill Gates: $5.00 per ninja. (Not always reliable, but hey, they’re cheap!)
  • Ask for any other requests!

That’s all I can think of.   I hate doing the starving artist thing (A LOT) but this is for our kitty, so I’m going to swallow my pride and bust out some art.   Please don’t feel obligated to help, just think of this as an opportunity to score some art from me a little cheaper than normal.   As soon as we’re stable again, I’ll be cutting back on commissions again.   E-mail me any questions or requests for commissions, it’s much faster than commenting.

Thanks again everyone!

I’m so sorry you guys have been comic-less for so long!   I’m not dead, I’m just up to my ears in illustration work and new expenses.   I love this comic, but the update schedule has got to be “as often as I can” and sadly, that’s not always going to be regular.   PL has always been something I love to do and it’s never going to go away.   I started it to improve my art and writing abilities, and I’ve always worked on it because I love it more than because I need money.   You guys have sent me TONS of supportive e mails, and I really appreciate it.   I’m going to really try and get the site redesign finished with RSS soon.   That will make life easier for everyone who checks every day waiting for something new.

Right now, I’ve just go so much on my plate, and the comics have had to suffer for it.   Christine and I are looking to get a place together, we’ve been traveling a lot for business, and I’m having to find creative ways to fund everything.   Believe me, if I thought a webcomic could support the both of us with no problems, I’d be updating every damn day!   For now, I’ve just got to be up front with you guys and say, I’ll update as often as I can.   Some times it may be once in a while, and other times it may be three times a week.   The problem is, even when I update on a perfectly regular schedule, there’s really not much of a change in revenue.   Ads only make so much and I don’t have time to create new merch for everyone and still update, maintain the site, write, and everything else that goes into Paradox Lost.   Trust me, this isn’t a call for everyone to start supporting me, it’s just a “thanks for being patient with me”.   I’m itching to do another burst of comics soon, so it’s only a matter of time before I do.   Everyone wish Christine and I luck!   I’ll be comicing again as soon as I possibly can, and I promise I’ll never take the comic down.   Thanks everyone!

I can’t even describe how busy things are!   They’re likely to be busy a little longer, then I’ll start pumping out as many comics as I can so that updates can go back to being automated.

The past few cons were amazing.   Magfest, Setsucon and Ohayocon kept me pretty busy, and I have lots to say about all three. It was our first Ohayocon, and we did some new things this time around, so lots there.   I also gotta say it was one of THE BEST cons I’ve ever been to!

Going to be haunting the halls of NYCC this week, and if we’re not dead, Katsu next week, so   keep an eye out.   After V-day (YAY!) a lot of things should change around here.   Updates will pick up, and the web site will change yet again.   This time, I’m going to try and make RSS a priority due to the updates.   Lots of freelance and even some commissions to finish up, and still need to respond to some e mails.   @___@   Hang in there!   I have to pay bills before anything else, just like everyone else, and sometimes that means doing the paid art jobs before the site, as much as I hate it.   Check back soon!
